Local Chapters?

posted by FeatherySquid on March 8, 2024 - 11:09am

Well, I'm asking this question because I don't see it anywhere on the site. Is there any place on here for connecting people of the same state so that we can get together and discuss the issues and recruit others IRL?

I really think this is something that should be started up. People have a much more sense of duty when they can meet each other and stew over a few beers as opposed to typing things like this online.

I recall that in the last election there was a meetup website of some sort that a lot of groups used.

GP, please phone me at 507-437-2974 or send mailto:cstevens@smig.net giving me your phone #.

Sore hands prevent me from typing more for now. I setup such meetups in 2024.

Hi, Chandler. Good to hear from another Minnesotan. Tonight is a bit busy for me, but I'll get ahold of you Friday after 5pm or else Saturday. Looking forward to getting some local feet on the ground...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!
Sometimes I feel like a fool trying to explain why I support unity08 - There are some really tough questions out there. It would be great to have meetings that you could invite 'skeptics' to. That this is a new approach to solving the countries problems - not 20 second sound bites or two sentenced "slogan" agendas.

Meetup.com would be a great way to organize these events.

The Democrats and Republicans have town committees - here in MA, there are 600 Democratic town committees with 35 members on each, 21,000 Democrats with massive reach into their communities. In order to build a truly national party, we need to take the same approach - but we can be nimble and organize online, whereas many of the existing town committees lack any online presence, or even an understanding of how to get one going.

Online town committees are what we need, and I think I have the perfect solution - how can I get a private conversation with the founders to discuss it?

You hit it right on the head.....If we truly are going to get on the ballot in all 50 states, we need to get organized in all states and congressional districts. A local chapter in each district or cluster of districts would go well to establishing that. Then we have to make sure information is given to each chapter explaining what needs to be done in their district(s) to get our ticket on the ballot. If we can't do that...all of this is for naught.

There are two things that we know we need to provide:
1). The ability for members to communicate with each other online in local areas.
2). The ability for members to plan offline meetings.

We're working on solutions for both of these right now as quickly as we can. I don't have a date for you on when to expect them, but know that it is soon!

Keep the ideas coming!

Thanks Bob :)

#1 we are somewhat doing here on this forum. Im sure others have suggested a live chat page.

#2 The Dean campaign and late DFA made excellent use of www.meetup.com. My wife and I ended up going to one meeting in our area through that to check it out. It wasnt necessarily our scene but I was glad to have gone. I think we can solve some of this issue ourselves. What we need though will be some direction...ie...procedure for forming a local chapter, whether we should set up our own meetup groups first, what chapters are supposed to be doing to get us on the Ballot, etc. I would personally set up one for the DFW area if that would be something that would help the general effort.

Another thing that might help is a member list. Nothing fancy just a list of usernames and general locations...or congressional districts. I wouldnt mind having an idea of how many members are in my area.

Thanks,

Varthelm-TX03

For online communication tools, we are looking at making it easier to move directly into a local "group" within this site where you can talk with people in your area. Meetup is a good suggestion, but they do not have an API that will allow us to integrate into the Unity08 site. So, while we haven't excluded it and will likely include it as one of the options, we are also looking at the likes of Eventful and Gather, et al.

Love the local "group" idea on the website. Especially if there was a "Group" chat option and a specific forum for a group. Would still be nice to be able to access a list of members in my group or in general.

As far as meetup goes...any objections to me setting up one in my area? At the least, it would be a way to get like minded invidivuals energized and talking about the issues and the Unity08 effort. Think it would also help garner new members if we had many meetups. Anyone have any set up now?

Thanks again,

Varthelm-TX03

I'd like for everyone to take the initiative to set up things in their area. We can shoot an email out to others near you to let them know that you have set it up... not an ideal solution for us right now since we are trying to build something and being the bottleneck for communication is just not scaleable. But, would love to start getting people together. If you want to have us send out that email, please let us know at info@unity08.com.

Thanks!

This site used to have a page with printable handouts and cards and such. Does anyone know where those are? I can't seem to find them anymore...

If everyone who is serious about Unity08, would add their unity 08 username with their congressional district and the email address, they use for unity08 to their signature, we could start building our local chapters.
The congressional district would allow us to find those in our state and district; the email address would provide a means to contract the Unity08 members.
By building local chapters now, we will be ready when Unity08 is geared up and then we can integrate with them quickly.
