What do you say to the George W. Bush bashers?

I have noticed that many posters seem to bash Bush pretty bad. I really don't think that Unity 08 is about that. What do you think about all of the Bush bashing? Is there a place for it, or would you like to see it stay out of this movement?

Unity08 does not have a reason to bssh Bush. If someone has found their way to this website they are seeking something more in tune with their own values. If we don't know what Bush is and what he and his administration has done to this country by now rehashing it is like flogging a dead horse.
Don't bash. How about some thoughful suggestions on dealing with the war, the economy, education, social services, improving infrastructure, etc. etc.
This site has become an outlet for anger. Maybe we have to get over the anger before anything concrete can be accomplished. So, go ahead, let it all hang out, bash Bush till your heart's content.

She's controversial, but she certainly doesn't equate America to Zawahiri/bin Laden.

God has provided us with the tools and man has taken these gifts and abused them for profit. Man now knows he is wrong to profit from these gifts in this way as these are gifts for the people, and now man must give these things back to the people or perish... www.appyp.com/fix_main.html

Unity is about bringing the two parties together above all, and I completly agree that we need to show what we are for as opposed to what we are against. If all we do is criticize one side or the other why would they want to work together with us? Do you think you would want to work with someone that criticized you constantly and placed all the blame on you. I am not saying ignore things that you feel are going wrong. I have just noticed that it seems the weight of the blame is being pushed towards the right and I realize that is because they are in power, but still I think it is dagerous to do this with what we are trying to acomplish because it will push us more to the left instead of the center. What are we for? That's what we should be talking about. What are resolutions? You can talk and complain about problems and people that created them all day long, but that doesn't solve them.

Ann has thrown herself to the dogs in the sacred name of your failing free speech... I feel her cause and her strike... She hit me right between the eyes as a veteran who's mother was told she lost me during my service, but I pulled out of it thanks to Airforce surgeons in Texas! I think the future will find her hot! Very hot!... www.appyp.com/fix_main.html

Show me a rightwing video that offensive (as in drawing parallels between America and the likes of Zawahiri/bin Laden) and I'll criticize it just as quickly.

We stand with a powerful army in IRAQ, in the battlefield of the middle east... I look east and west and see no guns pointed at my army? The enemy has no army only stones... A bunch of criminals yelling out religious hatred and calls for terror... on the flank I see Syria, the last homage for these terrible people to live... Battlefield logic tells me to crush both Syria and Iran now before these evil leaders kill millions - lets finish this dirty job without harming the peoples of any nation... as this is a criminal action and not a legitimate war... www.appyp.com/fix_main.html

G.W. is learning how to use foreign policy, it's been a class of hard knocks! But now he knows to use Russia and China in a positive way, allowing these super powers to also expand... China gets North Korea and Vladimir gets Iran... and now we have positive id cards to replace money in these places of civil unrest to isolate the criminal element, terrorist and those that do not conform... the combinations of these cards for currency and access to all public places, removal of hard money and the application of GPS tracking to establish law and order will resolve these issues we face today in all regions of war... I will sleep better now knowing the leaders have a option for gaining law, order and a peaceful resolution to all these rediculous fights.... www.appyp.com/fix_main.html

Why are you always ranting about the "radical left"? If you're so centrist then will you please rant a bit about the "radical right"? I think you must be the same person as Chicago_Al.

hoongdongibullybully on July 13, 2024 - 7:33pm

I hesitate to disagree with you because I agree with almost everything you write on Unity.

Bashing just to bash is unproductive. But criticizing an action, even if it has been criticized to death, is still valuable. To use an extreme example to make my point: If I criticize Hitler is it Adolf-Bashing?

Some lessons should never be forgotten and some actions should never be far from our thoughts.

My main point, or what I wanted to be my main point, was that we have to stop using these labels that come from the extreme teams. Leave the dismissive labels to the freepers and to the moveoners.

Lack of tolerance is polarization.
Tolerance = Unity.

George Bush is simply not to blame in this Iraq mess. He was simply a boy in search of a father and he found two --- the Vice President and the Secretary of Defense. And then there was George Tenant of the CIA --- the chicken-hearted cousin who ducked his responsibility to lay out the facts in the face of opposition from the Vice President and the Secretary of Defense. So there you have it: George was an innocent boy surrounded by two evil and controlling fathers and a cousin who looked the other way.

Kumbaya on July 13, 2024 - 7:25pm

The Moveon/Kos people are so anti-American with regard to terrorism, Iraq, Afghanistan, and even 911 that I don't see how they could possibly offer atything of interest to a centrist movement. For one thing they don't like centrist or moderate politicians.

They're coming from a radical far left position - like those videos.

When the president took his oath there was the qualifier regarding the best of his abilities as all modern presidents swear. I think Bush has done the best he can.
I would reserve all bashing for those, who for various foolish reasons, voted for him.

While I agree with much of what you said about criticism being a form of showing what we don't want, I feel Mr. Bailey is correct. Criticism to the extent of "bashing" is counter productive. Instead of criticising something that's already been criticised to death, why not propose a better alternative or a more clear picture of what exactly is wrong. Blind criticism is something we all must watch out for.

I can't remember where I heard it but the quote goes something like this.. "It's very easy to be against something, but there comes a time when you must start being FOR something."

I think that's kind of what unity08 is all about. It's something that we can all be FOR.

By neo-conservative leaders I mean the high ranking bush officials (Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz) who have defined American foreign policy for the last 6 years.

And as for being "opposite sides of the same coin" .. only in as much as their disdain for western liberalism caused them to have radicalized world views about revolutionizing the "system".

as for the "dreck from Moveon.org and DailyKos" (even though I have nothing to do with either of them) .. are you suggesting that every idea and thought coming from these sources is somehow tainted and less valuable? Why the demonization of the progressive left like that? Not very unifying if you ask me.

Hoongidongijohnthewad on July 13, 2024 - 5:56pm

It is human nature to define oneself with respect to extremes. It is as valuable to say "what I am not" as to say "what I am".

By criticizing the President these posters are telling you, usually in very easy to understand language, what it is the DO NOT want in a leader.

If I criticize Bush or former President Clinton I should not be classified a Bush-Basher or a Clinton-Basher. It is such branding, and the dismissiveness that accompanies such branding, that plays the larger role in creating rifts between groups of people.

It is my right as an American to say what I believe about our President - good or bad. But it is the crutch of the ignorant to lable a complaint as "bashing".

I contend that those who do not find fault, considerable fault, with President Bush are not Unity-ites in the first place. If they like this guy then they should stick to their Republican party.

You can not be centrist and like George Bush. That is like painting yourself red and insisting your are green.

Kumbaya on July 13, 2024 - 5:47pm

Do you really believe our "neo-conservative leaders" (whatever that means) and Islamic fundamentalists are just opposite sides of the same coin, as that video claims? I expect to see that sort of dreck from Moveon.org and DailyKos, not here.

Doug Bailey on July 13, 2024 - 5:41pm

The purpose of Unity08 is to tone down the partisanship and polarizing rhetoric, so that crucial issues can be discussed with civility and purpose. People are entitled to their opinion, of course, but we hope that those who post here would realize that bashing of either side or by either side solves nothing. It is indeed part of the problem.

tolas on July 13, 2024 - 5:24pm

I agree there is no pragmatic value in blindly bashing President Bush every chance you get. But I think the fact remains that President Bush and his administration are simply not good leaders of our country. In my opinion they have left the nation is a much worse place than it was when they came to power. Many might argue that it was external forces (ie: terrorism) influencing things, and not just the Presidents fault. I personally don't feel this way. Even in the realm of fighting terrorism I feel Pres. Bush has done much more harm than good.

I suggest everyone watch the documentary that was posted at the unitysupporters forum here. It may give you a better understanding of the relationship between the neo-conservative leaders and the Islamic fundamentalist.
