An exciting opportunity

Hi everyone --

We launched this web site last year to promote dialogue -- both organizational and philosophical -- among Unity08 delegates as we began laying the foundation for our June 2024 convention. In some ways, we have succeeded, but we also recognize we may not be tapping the full potential of this web site and of the energy, determination and expertise of those who visit here regularly.

We want to change that.

Earlier today, Doug Bailey and I spoke at length with John Kaczmarowki ("Kacz"), who articulated many of the frustrations that I'm sure many U08 delegates on this site are feeling. And rest assured, Doug and I feel many of them too. So we have an idea: On Monday, April 16, we'd like to sit down and talk face-to-face with a group of some of our most enthusiastic and committed Web site users -- about why we're all a part of Unity08, what exactly we are trying to accomplish, and, hopefully, how we can harness all of the talent and passion on these message boards and use it to make our web site a powerful recruiting tool for potential U08 delegates.

Please be aware that this would require you to be in Washington, D.C. on 4/16. Seating will also be limited, so unfortunately we may not be able to accommodate everyone who wants to come. I encourage anyone who's interested to respond to this post. Thanks,

Steve

Did the April 16 meeting happen? Who was there? Can someone post a rundown of what went on?

John Milligan on April 18, 2024 - 3:41pm

It went very well I thought - Popo has a post on it on his web site. Jack Lohman, Kacz, Popo and I joined the Unity08 folks Doug, Steve, Anya, Melissa, Matthhew.

We had a good vetting of the marketing and the various issues development and platform approaches. Doug expounded on his tremendous lessons of experience in the political trenches and he was willing to listen intently and take in new ideas. Was an interesting session to say the least with a good frank and congenial exchange. We imparted some ideas on them and we are more cognizant of what they want to do. They mentioned Sam Waterston speech at the National Press Club on April 25 coming up. Doug will be making some announcements in the next week or so that will expound on all. So stay tune on that one!

Sorry but I have not heard one solution for any of the dozen major issues. Not one politician has given a resiliant plan? How can we take leadership seriously if we don't require this? Is not a leader to lead? - Earn Snyder

For what it's worth, I'd like to see Jack attend this thing.

I live in the "other Washington" on the West Coast, so it's not practical for me to attend something like this. Honestly, I think if you read what's on this site, you'll see what needs to be done. Do you really need a meeting to tell you what to do next?:

UPGRADE THE FRIGGIN' WEBSITE! (like you promised last November).

Jack - if you get there, please BEG for a timetable on updating the web site to create the American Agenda.

I would accept the selection of the founders, who obviously would review the postings. If they think a person's postings are useful and his/her head is in the right place, They'd be a candidate to attend. Otherwise not.

I would like to see this consist of truly "middle members." The righties and lefties already have a place to go.

That said, I will throw my hat in the ring. Let me know "whether, and when and where."

While I am eager to and will attend if invited, it makes sense to limit the number of people for the first meeting - if it's to achieve anything worthwhile ..

It also makes sense, to assign seats to those who's postings have reflected a willingness and ability to contribute ideas/suggestions in line with UNITY08's objectives ..

I see this first meeting as an important step toward creating a formal plan that offers our best chance of success ..

Certainly Kacz and John Milligan should be there, I feel I can make a worthwhile contribution - and should be included ..

My opinion ..

So is this meeting just for the "elites" like Kacz, or are us "raving lunatics" gonna be invited, too?

KrisW on March 23, 2024 - 9:49pm

I think a meeting is good idea, but it shouldn't just be restricted to the 'usual suspects' that post here. EVERYONE should get an invitation, lest Unity08 simply become like the big two; making decisions in smoke-filled back rooms.

Once I get an email confirming this meeting, I'll attend.

I would love to attend. I have to make arrangements at work, but hopefully that will be no problem.

This will be a huge step in the right direction for Unity08.

Send me an email (KWeinschen@aol.com) with the location and time of the meeting and I'll be there.

John Milligan on March 23, 2024 - 7:05pm

Count me in Steve! I live in Glover Park here in DC and it should be no problem to participate and contrubute some ideas to this bipartisan cause!

KrisW on March 23, 2024 - 7:02pm

Why not just have a live chat?

and where in DC will this meeting take place? ("an undisclosed location"?)

I MIGHT be able to attend, but a weekend would be better

Bill713 on March 23, 2024 - 6:10pm

Hope the seats aren't all taken by DC locals. We have had great participation and insight from some on the website that may or may not be able to fund travel and time for this meeting. Perhaps on this meetings agenda you can fomulate how we can followup with a representative group that we choose and fund it part.

I love it that an anti establishment group says we must meet in DC.

I see that as part of Unity08's problem, its so DC centric.

I think you'd do better to tour around the country to both generate support and hear what the founding delegates have to say.

By the way, have you ever heard of teleconferencing?

Look, I am frustrated, so read my words in that light. Rest assurred that I am equally or more committed to changing politics in america.

You know how to reach me, so do it if you want.

GEA,

Send me your contact info, I'll keep it strictly confidential. I'd like to talk more deeply about your concerns (I tend to share them). Perhaps we can find a way to make this work...
